There’s a new park in town! Archtober 9th’s Building of the Day is the huge project in progress Hunter’s South Point Waterfront Park. The project, which is currently on Phase 1, is a master plan that encompasses approximately 30-acres in Long Island City, in Queens. Considered an international model of urban ecology and a laboratory for sustainable thinking, Hunter’s Point Waterfront South Point is a proposed affordable housing development with 5,000 housing units, 60% of which will be affordable to middle-class families.
The park has an oval-shaped playing field, a lawn area and a garden. Children can tunnel, swing and climb in the playground. This waterfront park which until recently was an abandoned post-industrial area is being transformed into an area that offers fun and relaxation, including a dog run, a bikeway, a basketball court, a playground and an elevated cafe plaza among many other facilities. The park was recently opened to the public on August 28th.
From the park, you have the view of the Manhattan skyline. The new site combines recreation, landscape and architecture. It sounds like a new great place for leisure time, and a few minutes away. Whenever planning on visiting, bring your bicycles, cameras, dogs and bathing suite!
High Line: you better watch out with the new waterfront park oasis in town!
