Parisian artist Francoise Nielly may be changing the way the world looks at oil paints. She paints with a knife in place of a brush and a color palette that could make neon signs everywhere jealous. The sharp lines created by the knife combined with the sharp contrast in color is stunning, and the intensity of her portraits is breathtaking. Every face is hauntingly real and beautiful with emotion-filled eyes that pop against the jagged lines and splashes of color. Nielly describes her work, stating, “her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color pallet dazzling.” Dazzling doesn’t even begin to cover it.
