Top 10 Illusions of 2012 via My Modern Met – My Modern Met rounded up the most mind-bending photos and art installations from 2012, and we couldn’t resist sharing. You might get a little dizzy, you might get a little confused – this collection of illusions could do that to you. Our favorite was this building you could scale, created for both kids and adults by Buenos Aires-based artist Leando Erlich. It was on exhibition for the first three months of the year in Paris, France.

Now and Then: 10 Awesome Past and Present Pics via Mashable – It’s amazing what power old photos have. Some can bring back a sweet, forgotten memory; others just remind you of the most embarrassing decisions your past self has made. These now-and-then mashups are a brilliant combination of the two. We showcased one of our favorites in the photo above.

Sloshed: The Pro-Am Guide to New Year’s Eve Drinking via New York Grub Street – Not exactly a design post, but an important note-to-self. This will be the Redesign team’s first New Year’s Eve in NYC, and we want to do it right, whether we consider ourselves amateur drinkers (yes) or pros (not so much). It does help that this piece is hilariously sarcastic.

16 of the Best Photo Essays from 2012 via Fast Co.Design – 2012 has been a memorable year in more ways than one. We can count the ways it has been disastrous, but we’re going to take a more optimistic (and creative route): commemorating the most creative photo essays from the year. Fast Co.Design has rounded up their favorite, and they earmarked one of our favorites as well: the perfectly symmetrical faces project.
