Believe it or not, there are plenty of incredibly creative ways to utilize and create typefaces. Let’s just say that the standard “Times New Roman” should be left for college essays. It is time to get inspired with the way we look at words. Time and time again, studies have shown the incredible benefits of very visual signage. The first one, of course, being its ability to leave a lasting impression. That is exactly what the handmade fonts by Estonia-based design company, Hand Made Font, are experts at understand and utilizing to their advantage. The company was founded in 2008 by Vladimir Loginov and Maksim Loginov and has been a great center for innovative work.
Below, you can see some of the end product results from the design firm, but you also get a sense of their design process and vision. While designers are consistently faced with the task of conveying messages to the public in a concise and direct way, oftentimes, many go the route of overcomplicating things or even simplifying it too much. Whether you think we should hail or fail Helvetica is a debate for another day, but there is no denying that going the more “ornamental” route can be fun, too!
This precise set of fonts utilize the concept as a source of inspiration. For example, for the “raw food” font, it makes sense to utilize fresh and “juicy” looking tomatoes. Plant life, fruits, and vegetation are often associated with the raw food movement. On the other end of the spectrum, meat is often associated with something more primal and animalistic. In that scenario, the usage of ground beef makes a great fit.
