Vim & Vigor Design is an NYC-based awarding winning industrial design firm that started their business on the principles that defined them as individuals: energy, enthusiasm, and creative energy. This particular creation is the ICFF Studio 2012 Award Winner. Named the SF Lamp Series, SF is short for spin and fold, which is a unique characteristic in these beautifully asymmetrical lamps. The SF Lamp Series is their way of paying homage to the vanishing art of hand spinning metal while still maintaining the scalability of mass production.
According to Vim & Victor Design on their lighting design:
The SF (Spin & Fold) Lamp Series brings a new twist to traditional spun metal. The beauty of the SF Lamps is that they appear to change forms right before the eye as you walk around them. While most spun metal parts are symmetrical in shape, SF is not. After the lampshade is spun, a cutting tool is used to punch a “key hole” in it. The shade is then folded, and secured into its new form. The result is a lampshade that appears to be a typical symmetrical shape when viewed from one angle, and, entirely differently, a key hole and a subtle organic form when viewed from another.
Take a look at the asymmetrical lamps below!
SF Lamps come in 3 shapes (acute, obtuse, and an intermediate width) and 2 finishes (black exterior with bronze interior, silver exterior with white interior). You can group them together, use them individually, and mix and match the shapes and sizes to create something truly unique to your home.
