Michael Robbins is putting a new spin on the typical log cabin furnishings by incorporating designs one might expect to see in posh, postmodern lofts towering above the streets of the trendiest neighborhood in town. The wooden materials he uses to bring his unique ideas to life create a feeling of rustic minimalism that we think would be the perfect fourth character for a present day movie adaptation of the childhood classic, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” We’re thinking maybe Elle Fanning as Goldilocks (obviously), Alec Baldwin as the voice of Papa Bear, and the porridge would probably have to be replaced with some sort of quinoa. All of course surrounded by the lovely furnishings courtesy of Mr. Robbins.
“Ahhh, this chair is just right.”
We can definitely see it. Before we head over to Warner Bros. to make our pitch – for what we are certain would be an Academy Award winning film – let us get back to the subject at hand. That is to introduce you Michael Robbins, whose furniture designs bring out contemporary forms with rural influences and would give any cabin in the woods a subtle, yet dramatic update.
Born and bred in Upstate New York, Robbins has released his first collection of furniture, after having just begun creating pieces in 2011, out of a renovated Hudson Valley wool factory. His designs are practical and focus on structure and craftsmanship rather than radical extravagance.
With plenty of homespun nostalgia and modern intrigue, Robbins masterful work takes a meaningful approach to the standard table and chair design. We know this designer will be around for a long time, and we can’t wait to see how his work evolves!
