Alright, so we know that many people have been saying that “print is dead’ and, heck, they’re probably right. That being said, many still like the feel of getting their newspaper delivered. But what do you do when you’re done with it? Are you responsible and recycle? Do you let them accumulate dust in some corner of your apartment? Try upcycling them into something useful!
1. Decorative Halloween Ghost Town via little lovely
It might be too late to decorate around the house with these spooky Halloween towns, but there’s no harm in pointing them out for next year. If you have kids, this is also a great arts ‘n crafts project to keep them busy.
2. Stylish Newspaper Gift Wrapping via Courtney Lane Michaels
Holiday season fast approaches and brace yourselves for crazy spending. Those gift wrap paper rolls are not cheap. And if they are, they are usually ugly. Solve this problem by using your NYTimes as the next gift wrap. It’s cool, unique, and definitely a stand out. Plus, we think your adult friends will appreciate it over those weird Santa Claus wraps…
Extra: Newspaper Gifts Bags via How About Orange
Staying in theme with holiday wrapping, feel free to create these gift bags as well!
3. Newspaper Rose Frame via Michele Made Me
If you feel like your apartment has been “blah” lately, take the time to make this floral frame. Coupled with a mirror and placed in your home’s entrance way or mud room and you’ve got a perfect home accent.
4. Art Mural via Candice Ashment Art
Make artwork. This one here is made by elementary school kids but feel free to elevate your DIY by not coloring the newspapers in and simply spraying in your desired stencil templates. Frame it and you have some pretty (and cheap) apartment deco.
5. Newspaper Bowl via Cut Out + Keep
Why make a bowl? Because you can. We think it looks pretty cool! Place it on your coffee table and fill with goodies for guests who come over.
6. Shimmering Stacked Trees via Martha Stewart
Having a Christmas tree is a nice thought, but alas, some of us living in tiny apartments all alone can’t seem to find the space or time to put up a whole elaborate tree. This DIY will give you a modern take on the Christmas tree without taking up too much room or requiring much assembly.
7. Paper Stars via Home By Linn
Every tree needs a star right? Feel free to use these as bows for those gifts of yours too. They are much more cost-efficient and “green” than those bright bows you usually see.
8. May Day Newspaper Basket via Spoonful via After School Treats
Create this bin easily. Fill them up with magazines, newspapers, or trash. Empty as necessary.
9. Newsworthy Wallpaper via Fab Green
This is an amazing idea. If you feel like you are in need of an apartment redesign, newspaper wallpaper might be just the move to make. It will keep your space looking inspired and unique. Who else has newspapers on their walls anyways? But we must say that it looks great.
10. Newspaper Taxidermy via Design Sponge
While I’m a huge fan of taxidermy, it’s harder for other people to get behind it. This contemporary take on the old tradition would make a great focus to any modern room without any irksome stares from dead animals.
