Now that the holidays have passed, most of us are just focused on our resolutions to stay fit and healthy for the new year, and we’re also hoping we can make it to spring without catching the dreaded flu. If you’re feeling even a little bit sick, we don’t want to be near you!
A new Kickstarter campaign for the world’s smallest and easiest-to-use smart thermometer, Wishbone, has been grabbing the attention of gadget enthusiasts, and maybe it’s because it can accurately detect the temperature in under two seconds without even touching a surface. It’s also the only smart thermometer compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
The tiny, Y-shaped gadget plugs into your smartphone via the audio jack and uses an infrared sensor to gauge temperatures without contact—whether it’s the forehead of a child or yourself, a hot beverage or pan from the oven, or the air around you. Wishbone runs on a small battery in one branch while the other branch is the sensor. The device’s shape makes it comfortable to place the thermometer properly while still seeing the phone’s screen. According to JoyWing, the thermometer’s sensors work between 32 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.36 degrees for body temperatures.
Not only does the device’s touch-free feature help with taking the temperature of your sick and disgruntled kid while 3-5 cm away from his or her feverish forehead, but the matching app quickly stores the reading and even lets you easily track conditions over time through visual graphs. Through the app, you can create different profiles, so the temperature readings of different family members can be tracked without getting everyone mixed up – which is great since germs can quickly spread within the household.

JoyWing is currently crowdfunding the Wishbone project on Kickstarter (ends Feb. 26), and will be shipping worldwide. You can pre-order the color of your choice for a pledge of $26+. The company plans to produce and deliver the first round of Wishbone thermometers in April, so you won’t have to wait very long!
